How to Choose a Great Chiropractor

Aug 24, 2017

Choosing a great chiropractor begins with a finding a great chiropractor—and we’ve made it easy. You no longer have to spend hours online doing searches and digging through sites to find quality chiropractors. Our list of best chiropractors saves you time by displaying all the necessary information you need to make your decision: office location and hours, plus chiropractor profile and rating, as well as the background, education, experience, and services.

But choosing a chiropractor requires more than online research. As with any health practitioner, choosing a chiropractor isn’t just a one-time thing. It begins when you make the appointment and continues with each office visit. You’re trusting this person with your well-being so it’s important to establish a good professional relationship. Below we have outlined three keys to help you find and choose a great chiropractor for your needs.

A Process for Choosing

1. Narrow down by specialty and personality. Search for someone in your area, with experience in your area of concern. For example, some have expertise in sports-related injuries, rehabilitation, nutritional counseling, pain relief, holistic health, or a number of other areas that may help you. Find one who offers the services that best fit your needs.

The best part, though, about seeing a profile is getting to know the chiropractor before you ever walk into their office. You’ll get insight into their values, their experience, and their personality that you can’t get from a website or review. Use this valuable information to help you find a great chiropractor.

2. The best chiropractors take time to answer questions patiently. You won’t know if you’ve found the best chiropractor until you have a few minutes to talk about your concerns. Many chiropractors offer free consultations for exactly this purpose, but whether it’s your first appointment or your consultation, come prepared with a list of 3-5 questions. Take a few minutes at the start of the appointment to ask them. Feel free to ask about chiropractic, their experience, and how this may help your problem. Ask them about your problem and how their treatment plan is going to solve it.

Ideally, three things will come of these questions:

Patience. Someone who will take the time to answer your questions and explain things to you is more likely to be someone who cares about your comfort, trust, and well-being than someone who is rushed.

Understanding. A good practitioner will be able to explain your problem to you in a way that you understand. When you leave, you should understand the problem and treatment well enough to be able to explain the problem to your friend. If you can’t, at least feel comfortable enough to ask follow-up questions later.

Knowledge. Their answers and explanations to your questions should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of your issue. Ask about their experience and their techniques, and what you can expect. You want a chiropractor that understands your concerns and will address them.

3. A great chiropractor empowers you to help yourself. You don’t want to spend the rest of your life seeking care from a chiropractor, and you shouldn’t have to. A good chiropractor can not only fix your problem but may also help you to prevent it from happening again. Maybe it’s that your heavy purse is throwing off your alignment, or that a herniated disc is causing your digestive issues. Whatever the problem, leave knowing more than when you came in.
